A political support group backing the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has inaugurated 400 canvassers to drive grassroots mobilisation and sensitisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, Zee 1 for YAYI, said the canvassers would take the campaign for Adeola and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress to homes, communities and rural areas across Ogun State.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abeokuta on Sunday, the founder of the group, Ambassador Ayomikun Azeez Ibrahim, charged the newly inaugurated canvassers to intensify their engagement with residents at the grassroots.
Ibrahim said the 2027 election would require sustained grassroots mobilisation beyond political gatherings and public declarations of support.
He said, “The election coming up in 2027, everywhere you see APC, from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator YAYI and all other APC candidates, we must come together and give our full support.”
The group’s founder said residents of Ogun State had witnessed Adeola’s contributions and activities even before he emerged as the APC governorship candidate.
He urged members to take the message of the senator’s candidacy directly to voters through door-to-door canvassing and engagements in rural communities.
“We have been seeing what Senator YAYI has been doing even before he was given the party ticket. Let us come together and give our full support for YAYI by canvassing from door to door about YAYI and other APC candidates. We must also take the message to rural communities,” he said.
Ibrahim also urged eligible voters who had yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to do so before the election, stressing that political support must ultimately translate into votes at the polling units.
“It is not by singing alone. We can only make use of our PVC to cast our vote. So, let us ensure that those who have not collected their PVCs do so,” he said.
He further urged the canvassers to sensitise residents on the importance of obtaining their voter cards and participating actively in the electoral process.
Also speaking, a former LCDA Chairman, Oba, and Senior Consultant to the Ogun State Governor, Hon. Asaluola Abiola, urged members of Zee 1 for YAYI to work collectively towards securing victory for the APC in 2027.
Abiola charged coordinators across the local government areas to ensure effective coordination and carry members along in their mobilisation activities.
“I want to urge all the coordinators in each local government to make sure they carry their members along. We all have to work to ensure APC victory ahead of the 2027 elections. Our collective effort at the grassroots is very important,” he said.
The Chairman and Consultant of the Commercial Motorcycle Riders Identification Scheme, COMORIS, Engineer Juwon Adebanjo, also stressed the importance of PVC collection and continuous voter sensitisation.
Adebanjo said the group would continue to educate its members and supporters on the need to obtain their voter cards and participate in the election.
“What is most important is our PVCs. We will continue to sensitise ourselves and encourage eligible voters to ensure they collect their PVCs so that they can exercise their civic responsibility,” he said.
A member of Zee 1 for YAYI from Odogbolu, Mr Owolabi Otubu, pledged his support for the group’s grassroots mobilisation campaign.
Otubu said the newly inaugurated canvassers would take the campaign message to communities and engage residents on the need to support Adeola and other APC candidates.
Similarly, a women leader in Abeokuta North, Mrs Kehinde Kazeem, urged women and other grassroots stakeholders to actively participate in the mobilisation exercise.
She encouraged women to take the campaign message to their families, communities and various social networks.
A leader of the support group, Mr Ayo Popoola, also urged the canvassers to remain committed to their assignment and ensure their activities extended beyond political meetings to direct engagement with voters across the grassroots.
