The coalition of student bodies in Ogun State has warned the Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Students’ Engagement, Sunday Asefon, to shelve his proposed visit to the state.

This was just as the coalition of the student bodies lauded Governor Abiodun for deeming it right to give N50,000 grants to each student of Ogun State origin in tertiary institutions, saying that the kind gesture would go a long way to help cushion the effects of the prevailing harsh economy.

The students’ groups disclosed that the coming of Asefon would cause disruption of public peace as it would force the students to embark on protest to vehemently reject and disapprove the visit of the former students’ leader to the state.

They claimed that their grouse with Asefon was due to what they called “his unpopular role and futile attempt” to ensure that the governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun got disqualified in the build up to the 2023 general elections on baseless and unfounded allegations

Asefon was also alleged to have led protest against Governor Abiodun when the governor went to submit his second term nomination and expression of interest form at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abuja.

The students’ groups disclosed this on Saturday in a statement signed by Adeyanju Oluwafemi, Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Ogun State and Thomas Kehinde Mathew, National President, National Association of Ogun State Students, among others.

The statement partly read, “We received this information with total dismay and absolute rejection considering the role the said Asefon played in the build up to the 2023 general election against the interest of Prince Dapo Abiodun, one out of several other reasons why Sunday Asefon had been declared persona non grata in Ogun State.

“Verified information shows that he was the brain behind the “Shawn Micheal “saga through his stooge one Oladimeji Uthman a known scavenger, who not only did their fake coalition called for the disqualification of Prince Dapo Abiodun but also called on anti-graft agencies to investigate Mr Governor.”

However, Asefon in his reaction has, however, said that he knew nothing about all the allegations levelled against him.

He said that his coming to Ogun State was principally to engage the students and their leaders on how best the government of President Tinubu could better serve the students and never to interfere in any internal affairs of the students bodies

Asefon said, “As SSA to President Tinubu, I am in Ogun State to discuss with the students and the students’ leaders. I came myself and the security agent that have been informed and the one that came with me.

“I don’t know if they have any parallel issue; I don’t know about that. If they have any issue within themselves in Ogun, I’m not aware and I’m not here to settle any issue or to discuss any issue of their internal crisis if they have but I’m not aware.

“So, again if anybody is saying I’m part of a protest in what year; I think I left NANS in 2021. So, I don’t know of that one.”
