Students in South-West Nigeria are set to embark on awareness campaign program to sensitise the general public on how to prevent the spread of cholera disease in the region.
The students under the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone D will sensitise residents on the importance of hygiene.
According to the NANS ZONE D Coordinator, Comrade Alao John in a release made available to BEYOND AFRICA on Sunday, the awareness campaign will take place in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Alao stressed that educational materials and flyers will be distributed during the campaign while they will also engage with local leaders and healthcare professionals.
The statement reads, “Solidarity greetings to all Nigerian Students. Today, it’s imperative for me to address a pressing issue that affects us all: cholera. This waterborne disease has claimed countless lives in our country, and it’s time for us to take action.
“As students, we have a unique opportunity to make a difference by joining hands together, we can sensitize the general public on the importance of hygiene, clean water, and sanitation.
“We must educate our communities on the risks of cholera and how it can be prevented. We must promote handwashing with soap, proper disposal of waste, and the use of clean water sources.
“By working together, we can, Distribute educational materials and flyers, Organize awareness campaigns and rallies, Engage with local leaders and healthcare professionals and Support vaccination efforts and water sanitation projects
“Let us use our collective voice to demand improved access to clean water and sanitation facilities in our various institutions and communities.
“Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can stop cholera. Let us join hands, let us raise our voices, and let us fight against cholera. For a healthier Nigeria, for a brighter future, we can make it happen!.”
