The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspend Popular Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar over allegations of professional misconduct and defamation.

This comes seven months after an Abuja High Court fined her N10 million for defaming Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries International.

In a statement posted on AGN’s Instagram page, the guild revealed that Abubakar’s suspension followed a two-year secret investigation into her involvement in slandering Nollywood colleagues and other prominent individuals. The AGN accused the actress of spreading false information, including allegations of extramarital affairs involving highly placed individuals.

The statement reads: “Following the thorough investigative report by the Special Secret Investigation Panel, it was uncovered that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind the defamatory information circulating since 2022. As a result, she has been placed on indefinite suspension and will face the National Disciplinary Committee to determine further action.”

During her suspension, Abubakar is prohibited from participating in any AGN or filming activities. The AGN also disclosed that other female members are under investigation, particularly regarding rumors of dealings with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

This latest development follows Abubakar’s April court ruling, where she was ordered to pay damages to Apostle Suleman, after accusing him of breaking a marriage promise and causing her a life-threatening ailment. In response, Suleman had filed a N1 billion lawsuit against the actress for defamation in January 2023.
