A Chief Magistrate court in Akure, the Ondo state capital, has ordered remand of one Sunday Emmanuel, who allegedly macheted his wife, Linda to death.
Emmanuel was also alleged to have macheted his 3-year-old son on the head, with the intent to kill him.
The police arraigned Emmanuel, on two counts bordering on murder and attempted murder.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Josephine Awanna said Emmanuel killed his 30-year-old wife, Linda Emmanuel, by macheting her on the neck and cheek.
Awanna had earlier informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 7, at 5:30 pm, at Ogbeni Camp Ofosu in the Idanre Local Government area of Ondo State.
She said that Emmanuel, after killing his wife, also attempted to kill his 3-year-old son, Sunday, by macheting him on the head. And in the process, the boy sustained a life-threatening injury.
According to the police prosecutor, the incident happened when the defendant and the deceased had a dispute on what to do with their annual wages.
He added “The argument got heated up and the man entered the room, took a machete and allegedly cut his wife to death.
The offences, according to the charge, contravene Sections 319(1) and 320(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
She prayed the court to remand the defendant to the correctional facility pending advice from the DPP
The trial Chief Magistrate, Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi, thereafter, ordered him to be remanded at the Correctional facility in Ondo town, pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions, DPP, in the Ondo State Ministry of Justice.
Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi has therefore adjourned the case till February 2, 2025, for mention.
