A man, identified as Olubunmi Johnson, has been arrested by the operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly setting his wife, Kikelomo, on fire.
The incident according to reports, occurred in their apartment on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in the Ota area of Ogun State.
BEYOND AFRICA learnt from a source within the community that the incident took place around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, following a domestic dispute.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola told Journalists that Johnson has been detained in connection with the crime.
It was learnt that a neighbour who witnessed the incident alerted the victim’s relatives, who then informed the police about what is now being investigated as an attempted murder.
Odutola stressed that police officers from the Ilogbo Division quickly took action, resulting in the arrest of the 55-year-old suspect.
“The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.
“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained.”
