Veteran Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has explained why she does not live a flashy life like some of her colleagues, saying acting alone does not bring the kind of money people think it does in Nigeria.

BEYOND AFRICA reports that she shared this while speaking during a recent interview published on February 1, 2026, where she addressed public questions about her wealth and lifestyle after many years in the movie industry.

Akintola said many people wrongly believe that being a popular actress automatically leads to wealth.

According to her, payments from movie platforms such as Africa Magic and similar outlets are not enough to fund expensive lifestyles or luxury living.

The actress also pointed out that some entertainers have other sources of income outside acting, which the public often ignores.

She explained that when people compare her to actresses who live lavishly, they fail to ask what other businesses or activities those actresses are involved in aside from acting.

Akintola, who has spent decades in Nollywood, added that many of the glamorous lifestyles displayed on social media cannot be supported by movie fees alone.

She noted that the public often misunderstands how money truly circulates in the entertainment industry, especially for actors who depend mainly on film roles for income.

She said: “When people ask me why I am not rich like other actresses, I tell them to go and ask them what other jobs they do.

“We hear stories of some actresses who do things with politicians for money. We know how much Africa Magic and other platforms pay for a movie.

“Acting alone cannot make many actresses rich, especially when you look at how little movie platforms pay.

“Most of the flashy lifestyles people see online cannot be explained by acting fees alone.”
