Following the announcement by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, directing the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant agencies for the distribution of farm inputs to farmers in the state, a Civil Society Organisation, Greater Osun Agenda (GOA) has called for transparency in the process.

The distribution of the farm equipments according to Adeleke is to reduce the effect of food inflation and ameliorate the current economic hardship on the people of the state.

But GOA in a statement by its Convener, Comrade Bolanle Jolapamo in Osogbo, on Friday charged the ministries, agencies, and government officers involved in executing the Governor’s directives to ensure it’s done diligently and in good faith.

The statement reads: “We, of the Greater Osun Agenda (GOA), wish to commend Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for his foresight and proactiveness in rolling out action plans to promote the welfare of the Osun people in the face of the current economic hardship.

“As you may recall, the Governor, following up on his promises during the nationwide EndBadGovernance protest, issued a statement through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, directing a wide range of measures to help tackle the current hardship on the people. These measures include policies on food security, minimum wage, fuel affordability, etc.

“While commending the Governor, we strongly charge the ministries, agencies, and government officers involved in executing these directives to ensure that they are done diligently and in good faith.

“The items to be distributed, such as fertilizers, grains, tractors, and other farm input, must reach the intended users and not middlemen or political cronies.

“We also demand that the names of all beneficiaries be made public to ensure accountability and transparency.

“Furthermore, we appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Science and Innovation to also make public the modalities for participation in the Young Agropreneurs Incubation Programme and the State ICT and State Innovation Policy programmes respectively.

“This will enable our teeming unemployed youths to fully participate and benefit as directed by the Governor.”
