A 52-yearo-ld Canada returnee, Morufudeen Idowu, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment for assaulting an official of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (popularly known as KAI) at Ojota.

BEYOND AFRICA gathered that Idowu was arrested after he allegedly physically attacked a KAI official who stopped him from crossing the Ojota expressway, in violation of Lagos State’s pedestrian safety regulations.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the incident occurred during routine enforcement activities by KAI officers to discourage illegal road crossing.

In a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Wahab disclosed that Mr Idowu, who claimed to have recently returned from Canada, refused lawful arrest and assaulted a government official performing his duty.

“Following the arrest of Mr Morufudeen Idowu, who assaulted one of our personnel and refused arrest while crossing the expressway at Ojota, he was arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting at Oshodi and sentenced to three months imprisonment,” Wahab posted on Friday.

The assault took place near the Ojota pedestrian bridge, one of the locations frequently monitored by LAGESC operatives due to the high number of pedestrian-related accidents recorded on the expressway.
