Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and his only challenger for the 2022 governorship ticket on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Dotun Babayemi, may be heading for a collision, following the seizure of Atunto Cooperative license.

Babayemi had launched Atunto Osun, a cooperative forum for empowerment, especially for rural dwellers to lessen effects of economic hardship on them on December 7, 2023.

The ex-governorship aspirant, who has insisted on being a member of PDP, even after the party announced his expulsion, said at the launch of Atunto in Osogbo that it was an initiative without religious or party colouration.

But the presence of some known members of the All Progressives Congress at the launch cast a huge doubt on Babayemi’s claim of non-partisanship.

Checks by this medium revealed that ‘Atunto Osun’ should have taken off since January, but seizure of the license of the cooperative initiative delayed its commencement of operation.

An associate of Babayemi, who pleaded for anonymity since he was not authorized to comment on the matter, during a chat with Osun Daily said, “Atunto Osun is yet to take off because Osun State government has seized the license of the cooperative group.

“The agency used to seize the license gave a flimsy excuse. But we are strategising. Atunto Osun has come to stay in this state. What the move by the agency used for the job means is that someone is afraid of Babayemi.”
