The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that it will arraign an ex-convict, Yemi Aparaojo, and his accomplice, Samuel Adekunle, for allegedly robbing a passerby of N25,000 in the Mile 12 area of the state while he was trying to help them.
This was contained in a statement shared on the Facebook page of the Rapid Response Squad on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the duo, alongside two others, had approached the passerby to assist them with a sum of money.
The statement read, “The suspects, Yemi Aparaojo, popularly known as Asa, a 33-year-old and Samuel Adekunle, a.k.a Omo-jo–Ibo, a 37-year-old, were arrested by the operatives around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
“Aparaojo, an ex-convict, was released from the Kirikiri Maximum Correction Centre in May 2025 after six and a half years at the facility. Adekunle, on his part, had been fingered in several traffic robberies around Ajelogo and Ketu. The operatives had been on the lookout for him.
“The duo, along with two others, last week at about noon, robbed a passerby of his N25,000 while the victim was trying to assist them with some money when the group pestered him. The gang thereafter assaulted the man.”
The statement added that the suspects were arrested after the victim identified them to the RRS operatives on the same day.
It noted that following the information, the operatives dashed at the suspects and arrested two while two others escaped.
The statement noted that, according to the Commissioner of Police Directives, the suspects would be arraigned in court.
“The victim, on sighting the leader of the gang, Adekunle, on Tuesday, alerted RRS operatives, who rounded up the suspects. Two members of the gang escaped through Ketu market.
“The commander, Rapid Response Squad, CSP Sola Jejeloye had in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, reinforced Response riders at Ketu and Mile 12 to stem the tide of crime on the corridor.
“Jejeloye has directed that the suspects be charged in court immediately while the team intensifies efforts to arrest other members of the gang,” the statement noted.
