The suspended Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has been appointed as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC).

Governor Fubara, who was suspended by president Bola Tinubu on March 18, through an emergency rule declaration, remains under suspension.

The six month suspension is scheduled to expire on Wednesday, September 17.

The Adamawa state governor Ahmadu Fintiri was named the chairman of the 1100 member NCOC.

This decision puts into effect the resolution made during the party’s last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The elective national convention is scheduled to take place in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, 16.

The Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, was named the deputy chairman, according to a notice issued on Monday, August 18, by the PDP national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

The committee has been given the mandate to coordinate events leading to the national convention.

The Enugu state governor, Peter Mbah will serve as secretary of the committee while many other prominent chieftains are members.

The members include former special duties minister, Tanimu Turaki; PDP board of trustees chairman, Adolphus Wabara, PDP acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, and deputy national chairman, Taofeek Arapaja.

The PDP national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu; former Vice President, Namadi Sambo; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State are also members.

The secretary of the board of trustees, Ahmed Makarfi; Plateau State governor, Caleb Muftwang; Taraba State governor, Kefas Agbu; Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal; former senate president, Bukola Saraki; and former Niger governor, Babangida Aliyu also made the list.

The PDP has inaugurated a 44 member zoning committee for the convention.

Governor Diri will serve as the chairman, with Governor Dauda Lawal as his deputy.

The committee’s mandate is to establish zoning arrangements for the various elective positions within the party’s new National Working Committee (NWC).

This means the committee will also determine which of Nigeria’s two main geopolitical zones the North or the South will produce the next national chairman.

The PDP has reinstated the policy of alternating the presidential ticket and the national chairmanship between the North and the South.

As a result, if the national chairmanship is zoned to the North, the presidential candidate will be from the South, and vice versa.
