Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has been called to intervene in the obaship tussle ongoing in his hometown, Iperu Remo in Ikenne Local Government area of the state.

The call was made by human rights group, Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights.

It was alleged that the Chairman of the local government, Segun Ogunleye is at the centre of the tussle following his alleged resolve to impose one Olugbenga Shomade as the next Akufon of Idarika, Iperu Remo.

Shomade was alleged not to be a member of the Igundaniyan royal family, which is expected to produce the successor to the throne of Akufon of Idarika, Iperu Remo after the demise of Oba Muibi Akinsanya on January 28, 2021.

The President of the CHSR, Alex Omotehinse while addressing Journalists in Abeokuta said that it is important Governor Abiodun attends to the lingering crisis emanating from the kingship selection in Idarika, Iperu Remo before things get out of hand.

Omotehinse said, “What is however of immediate concern and source of worry is the subterranean maneuver of the Council Chairman, Hon Segun Ogunleye’s alleged partisanship in the selection process instead of allowing the kingmakers to do justice according to established chieftaincy acts.”
