
A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ogun State, Hon Akeem Oluseye has explained reasons Nigerians, especially those at the grassroot are not enjoying dividends of democracy.
According to Oluseye, the control of Nigeria’s resources is in the hands of few individuals who are at the same time oppressing the people with it.
The former House of Assembly and Local Government chairman aspirants in Abeokuta North stated in a June 12 release made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital on Thursday.
According to him, politicians and well-meaning individuals must do everything in their capacity to make sure development gets to the people at the grassroot.
He said: “On this year occasion of June 12, I want to congratulate Nigerians. There’s nothing that can be compared to democracy but we are not practicing it the way it should be. Democracy is all about developing our country with our resources without any form of ethnicity or tribalism. There must be equal development across regions.
“What we lack in Nigeria is equity and empathy. Political office holders should see leadership as a responsibility. We must give people what belongs to them. We are only opportuned to be at the helms of affairs not that we are the best.
“Every individuals must also show empathy to people around them by assist the vulnerable and downtrodden. It’s only this way democracy can thrive in our country. May God bless Nigeria.”
