The All Progressives Congress, APC lost only one Councilor to PDP at Ward ‘D’ Yaba LCDA during the Lagos State Local Government Election on the 12th of July, 2025.
First of all, it’s not bad to have local legislators from different political parties to represent the people at Local Government parliament.
This is supposed to serve as a shadow cabinet to the political party that won the majority sit. Hence, there will be checks and balances on policies and how local funds are being spent.
Prior to the report we had from the community, we discovered that the PDP candidate that was announced by LASIEC as the winner was a strong member of APC and he took part in the party primaries, but lost the ticket to Adeosun Oladipupo before he decamped to PDP and contested against the APC party flag bearer.
In order words, he won’t serve as shadow cabinet within the local parliament. He is originally a member of APC and I won’t be surprised if he decamp back to APC any time soon.
We also gathered information from a reliable source that Hon. Kayode Omiyale who happened to be the Yaba LCDA Chairman under APC was solidly behind the PDP candidate. One of the party leader with the name Jide Jimoh and siting chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government name Hon. Essien also took a significant part in ensuring there political party (APC) lost the election.
It is obvious that Internal power struggles and personal ambitions within the party (APC) led to the awful loss.
There actions and inactions could cost the party to lose voters trust, electoral defeat, crossing party lines and sabotaging party’s efforts. Anti-party activities can also break the fabrics of party structure.
To cap it all, it is in the best interest of the apex leader of the APC to carefully investigate this and bring all the perpetrators to book.
This will serve as lesson to others.
It must not become a precedence in the future.
