The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Adebayo Ayorinde has responded to the controversies surrounding ongoing projects in the local government.

BEYOND AFRICA reports that the legislative arm of the local government had earlier at the sitting on May 22, 2023 directed that all ongoing projects in the area be halt tentatively.

The Chairman in an interview with BEYOND AFRICA said he’s yet to receive any correspondence from the legislators, saying they do not have the right to stop ongoing projects but seeks clarifications as they deem it fit.

Ayorinde said: “I’m just seeing this from you. I’m sure the legislative arm should be well educated on the proper channel to get whatever information they want from the council.

“It’s their legislative right to summon any department to appear before the legislative house and give clarifications on what they think might be grey areas.

“Till this minute I have not received any correspondence on this from them. Legislators do not have the right to stop ongoing projects but seek clarifications as they deem fit.

“What is happening is very good for democracy. It’s called separation of powers and it only brings dividends of democracy to the good people of Abeokuta North LG. The executive arm will respond appropriately immediately we receive their correspondence”.

Meanwhile, the chairman said the local government under his leadership received commendation from the Ogun State House of Assembly while they appeared before them recently for his achievements in the last three years.

He said he has given Abeokuta North a new face through execution of monumental projects.
