NDLEA Seizes 1,600.949kg Of Drugs, Discovers 9.5 Hectares Of Cannabis Farms In Osun

About 1,600.949kg of various drugs were seized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Osun State within one year.

The command also discovered 9.5 hectares of cannabis farms across the state with 23.75 tons of cannabis Sativa destroyed.

This contained was contained in a press release signed by the Osun NDLEA Commander, Chidi Nnadi CN, a copy made available to BEYOND AFRICA in commemoration of the 2024 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.

Nnadi noted that within the period under review, the Command’s efforts to fulfil the agency’s mandate yeilded positive results.

According to him, “a total of 299 persons were arrested in the state for various drug offences, comprising of 248 males and 51 females.

“Seizure of 1,600.949kg of various drug were recorded. The dominant being cannabis sativa with 1,536kg, cocaine 0.013gms, other psychotropic substances 64.936kg and 16.5litres of skushes.

“In the area of prosecution, 58 convictions were secured at the Federal High Court, Osogbo while other cases are still ongoing.”

The commander however called on drug dealers and cultivators in Osun State to desist from the nefarious trade or face the consequences of arrest and prosecution.

He thanked Governor Ademola Adeleke and other stakeholders for their support in the fight against drug abuse in the state.
