The Osun State chapter of the Accord has watched with a mixture of amusement and disbelief the latest outburst of arrogance by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Bola Oyebamiji, who likened the 2026 Osun governorship election to a penalty kick without a goalkeeper.

Such a statement is not confidence; it is the loud confession of a man hopelessly detached from political reality and intoxicated by illusion.
Mr Oyebamiji must immediately wake up from his godfather-induced hallucination and purge himself of the lazy belief that power is inherited, donated, or dropped from the sky by a rejected political overlord. The same godfather whose government was decisively beaten, disgraced, and chased out of the Osun Government House by the overwhelming votes of the people cannot now repackage a political errand boy as a “no-contest” candidate.

Let it be clearly stated: Osun people did not merely vote out APC in 2022; they revolted against incompetence, cruelty, and wicked administrative policies in which Bola Oyebamiji was a central actor as Commissioner for Finance. He was not a spectator; he was an accomplice. He was not a victim; he was a beneficiary.

Only a politically lazy robot, programmed for entitlement and lifelong spoon-feeding, would imagine that elections are ceremonial strolls into office. That mindset is not democratic, it is criminally arrogant. Expecting a free ride to power without credibility, acceptance, or moral standing is the mentality of a political armed robber, not a serious statesman.

Even a performing Governor, backed by visible achievements, would never insult the intelligence of Osun people by declaring an election a walkover. How much more a teething candidate with a mountain of anti-people records, whose name evokes memories of unpaid entitlements, fiscal recklessness, and economic hardship?

Mr Oyebamiji should understand this clearly, Osun is not a conquered territory, elections are not under the table NIWA appointments, and political offices are not inheritance passed from a disgraced master to a loyal servant.

The 2026 election is not a penalty kick, it is a referendum. And Bola Oyebamiji is walking into that referendum abjectly unpopular, politically naked, and historically unelectable. He may want to prepare his medics early, because August 8, 2026 will deliver a shock too heavy for propaganda, arrogance, or borrowed confidence to manage.

Osun people are ready and the ballot is waiting.
And unlike his fantasy, there will be a goalkeeper, millions of them!

Signed:
Pastor Victor Babalola Akande
Osun State Accord Chairman.
