-As Govt Frowns Against Factional Activities
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, Osun State Axis, has warned the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Students’ Affairs, Comrade Basiru Aderoju against polarising the Association.
They gave the warning at the Association’s Congress held at the Freedom Park, Osogbo, on Tuesday.

The Congress, which constitute the highest decision-making body of the organisation, agreed that decisive action should be taken against the activities of any faction groups, and should not be allowed to use any property belong to the Association.
Earlier, NANS has accused Comrade Aderoju of planning to factionalise the Association in the state, saying such decision would undermine the administration of Governor Adeleke.
But Aderoju in an interview with newsmen debunked the allegation, saying it’s not possible for him to factionalise the Association.
He said he is just an intermidiary between the students and the government.
The Congress also frowned at the unjust arrest of some student leaders in the state.
The communique issued at the Congress and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Sunday Balogun and Secretary, Comrade Makinde Awoleru reads: “Being the resolution of the Congress of NANS JCC Osun Axis held today at the Freedom Park, Osogbo. The Congress, which constitutes the highest decision-making body of the organisation, convened today to meticulously discuss and address the paramount issues affecting the student community and the affairs of the State, and the below resolutions were reached.
“According to the sacrosanct constitution of the organisation, subsection 3, the Congress serves as the highest decision-making body, and by this provision, these resolutions are binding on all organs of the Association.
“After the Congress had appointed Balogun Sunday, popularly known as Kelvin_X from Obafemi Awolowo University, and Makinde from Osun State Polytechnic, Ire, as the resolution drafting Chairman and Secretary, respectively, the Congress hereby resolved on and documented the following.
“After the Chairman had succinctly stated the two agenda of the meeting, which are; the Issues of the CPC and unlawful arest of students’ leaders , Comrade Akinmoladun Oluwagbopemi Israel, the Union President of University of Ilesa, passionately argued that the Congress should strictly adhere to the constitution and not allow emotions to dictate decisions, citing the importance of precedent. Another comrade from OAU, Favour Oladejo, lent credence to this argument, and a motion was moved to this effect.
“In the absence of a counter motion, the Congress resolved that the CPC appointed by the Chairman should continue operation and organize a world-class convention in a few days to come.
“After the issues of CPC had been ratified by the Congress, the SRC President of University of Health Science, Ila Orangun Comrade Akinduro Oriola , astutely argued that it is sardonic that some individuals, who should protect the interest of students due to their status, are the ones submitting the names of student leaders for arrest.
“He advised the Congress to make a statement and send strong messages to security agencies that no one should arrest student leaders in the State. After his persuasive argument to back this up, he moved a motion to this effect, and Comrade Afolashade from Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke, seconded the motion, and the Congress resolved on this as well.
“The Congress, after attending to the two agenda, thoroughly examined the exemplary work of Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, particularly in the aspect of education. The Congress, after thorough debate, unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Government of Adeleke.
“They stated the bursary that indigent students in Osun got, the scholarship of over 500 law students, construction of roads on campuses, and other remarkable achievements of the government. All the students pledged their unwavering support for his re-election in 2026.
“The Congress, after scrutinizing the scorecards of this current Osun JCC Axis’s administration and the innovative initiatives they brought to the organisation, passed a resounding vote of confidence on the leadership of the Axis led by Ogungbe Adedamola Taiwo and urged anyone coming on board to emulate their exemplary stewardship.
“The Congress, which constitutes the highest decision-making body, intricately examined the activities of the Union on campuses and discovered that an individual, named Ajadi Hamzat, who was suspended by the Polytechnic management, still parades himself as the Union President instead of the transition committee constituted by the management of the institution.
“The Congress saw this as an egregious abuse of the integrity of the Association. After a motion by Comrade Ambimbola from Polytechnic Ede, the Congress unanimously declared him a pariah to serve as a deterrent to other persons who want to engage in that fraudulent part.
“Similarly, a student from University of Osun State, Comrade Ayoolami, raised the issue of Emmanuel, who was a Union President of Uniosun until his convocation in September 2024 but still parades himself as the President of the Union in that school.
“The Congress saw this as bad politics that could hinder the progress of the association because, if supposed leaders of tomorrow can be power-hungry, the future is bleak. To set an exemplary standard for others, once you convocate from a school, you need not parade yourself as President of that Union again. His personality was also declared a pariah.
“The Congress unanimously agreed that decisive action should be taken against the activities of faction groups, and they should not be allowed to use any association’s properties. The Congress also warned Mr. Basiru Aderoju to do away with divisive and destructive politics.
“The Congress, after all debates and arguments, marched to the Government’s office and was warmly welcomed by security agencies and government officials at the White House.
“They promised the student community that factional activities would not be tolerated, as no one is allowed to jeopardize peace in the State.
“Comrade Okiki, the Union President Elect of Osun State College of Health Technology, moved a motion for the adjournment of the Congress, and at 3:30 pm, the Congress was adjourned.”
