The South-West National Chairman of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arambambi, has declared that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, remains a member of the party.

According to him, Peter Obi never announced his defection from the party and has not picked up a membership form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

BEYOND AFRICA reports that Arabambi, who spoke during News Central TV’s Breakfast Central, challenged anybody with contrary evidence to present it.

“That aside, Peter Obi has not left Labour Party; he is just hibernating in ADC,” he said.

To buttress his point, Arabambi argued that several prominent leaders of the ADC openly dumped their former parties and picked up the ADC membership card, but Obi did not follow the process.

“I say this because we have seen former Vice President resigned PDP and joined ADC, former governor of Rivers resigned from APC and joined ADC, even El-Rufai, and others all resigned openly and obtained their ADC cards.

“I challenge anybody to come out and tell me where Obi obtained his own card. For me, Mr Obi is just hibernating,” Arabambi said.

He, however, insisted that the Labour Party would not allow Obi to stage a return for the party’s 2027 ticket.

“He is just coming back, but our party will not allow our party to be a tool of political resurrection,” he added.

Abure’s Tenure Has Not Elapsed
During the interview, Arabambi also insisted that reports suggesting that the tenure of Julius Abure as the Labour Party National Chairman has expired are inaccurate.

He said the claims are wrongly attributed to a Supreme Court judgment.

He challenged anyone who claims Abure’s tenure has expired to provide evidence.

“It was narrated to the media that the court said that the tenure of Julius Abure, but I want to explain this thing to you.

“You should know that no court in Nigeria said Abure’s tenure has expired. In that Supreme Court judgement, there is no court that said Abure’s tenure has expired.

“If there is any court, I challenge [them] to petition the police because what that judgement was [being said is] an act of perjury, because you have no right to review the Supreme Court ruling,” he stated.
