The Tertiary Health Institution National Consultative Forum, THINCF has said that there is genocide against health workers in the country.
It added that the federal government is careless about the plight of health workers.
THINCF called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to wake up to his responsibilities and save bleeding in the health sector, saying that health workers deserve better treatment.
The National Chairman FHI Sector MHWUN who also doubles as National Vice President Medical and Health Workers of Union Of Nigeria, Comrade Dr. Davidson Akilaiya disclosed this during the South-West Zonal meeting of THINCF held at FMC, Abeokuta on Tuesday.
He said “It is quite unfortunate, Nigeria is going through a lot at the moment , we feel for Nigerians because the Government tries to be careless about the plight of Nigerians, we are talking about Genocide against some sections of religion in this country but there is genocide against workers in the health sector in this country, JOASU members are being marginalized in their own environment, their rights and welfare is not being considered by the federal government”
Comrade Akilaiya while speaking with newsmen urged the Federal government to address the issue surrounding JOHESU’s strike with immediate effect.
He submitted that the health workers need to be taken care of and not made to suffer, lamenting that their rights and welfare is not being considered by the federal government.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should wake up to his responsibilities on this matter, he should act fast and save the bleeding in the health sector, they are complaining of Doctors running away from this country, these are some of the issues, the Government should wake up and address these issues holistically, those who are on strike are Nigerians, they are not foreigners, they are people who are supposed to be taken care of by this Government, Government should take care of his citizens.
“If you look at it critically, the constitution of this country is very clear on the issue of welfare of Nigerians, the Ministry under which we are is also Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, unfortunately the issue of their welfare that has been on the frontline in the past 12 years has refused to be addressed and that is why the JOHESU is on strike.
” Strike notice was given 15 days to the Federal Government but in their usual character, mannerism, they didn’t do anything untill a day to the strike and the Minister of State for Health and Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for Economy were there tried to make passionate apeal, it goes beyond appeal, i think we should get it serious with the health of Nigerians, when talking about growth in the GDP, is it not people that are doing well that will grow your GDP, if Nigerians are not healthy how do you grow your GDP.
“These people are not serious about our healthy lives, so we feel for Nigerians, Nigerians should bear with us , a labourer is worthy of his weight, we need to be taken care of so that we can take care of Nigerians too as Health Workers” he concluded
