An anesthesiologist walked out in the middle of surgery to have sex with a nurse in another operating room, according to multiple reports.

The incident happened in 2023, but the doctor recently had a hearing in the United Kingdom that will determine if he is fit to practice medicine in the country once again.

The doctor was identified as 44-year-old Suhail Anjum.

Though the reported incident happened in 2023, it became highlighted once more because the doctor applied to work once again in the United Kingdom, according to the BBC.

Took a ‘comfort break’
The backstory:
Dr. Suhail Anjum, 44, and the unidentified nurse were caught in a “compromising position” by a colleague at Tameside Hospital in Manchester in September 2023.

Anjum had said he needed to take a “comfort break” and asked another colleague to monitor the patient halfway through the operation.

The patient was undergoing gall bladder removal surgery, according to India Today.

Another nurse went to look for equipment to prepare for the next procedure when she discovered Anjum and the unidentified nurse.

After being gone for eight minutes, Anjum returned to the operating room and completed his work.

Anjum didn’t deny the accusations and evidence brought against him.

He said that, though his behavior was inexcusable, he and his wife had been having issues since their daughter was born prematurely and was going through a “stressful time.”

What’s next:
The hearing was set to continue on Friday and the panel will hear testimony on whether Anjum is fit to continue practicing medicine, the Independent reported.
