Towards increasing the Internally Generated Revenue of Abeokuta North Local Government, a chairmanship aspirant in the area, Hon. Akeem Oluseye has vowed to make farming attractive to youths and individuals in the LG.

Oluseye opined that all necessary support and trainings will be given to youths and others who are interested in farming activities.

He said: “We will make farming attractive to them (youths). We will give them necessary support and trainings so as to make farming attractive to them. Abeokuta North is big on landmass with a lot of arable lands for farming but we are generating meager IGR.

“Another thing is to partner with school principals within the local government on the importance of farming in our schools. The issue of food is becoming a serious issue in the South-West. We need to engage our students. We will give each schools seeds, tractor and fertilizer to make it stress free for them.

“There’s also going to be a standard farm market to sell our farm produce to sell food items at a subsidise rate. However, we will feed our people first before selling to others.

“Our administration will also put storage facilities in place to preserve our food ahead of dry season. This will assist us prepare for the future and feed our people anytime any day.

“Also, we will tap into all legal means to increase the IGR of the local government. This will go a long way in increasing the IGR of the state. We will be competing with the most viable LGAs in Lagos.”
