Hon. Akeem Oluseye is the Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Information Technology.
His appointment was conveyed in a letter dated August 11, 2025, personally signed by the governor.
The appointment initially generated some questions in political circles, particularly because the letter described Oluseye simply as Senior Special Assistant without specifying a particular office or department.
Some political observers consequently viewed the appointment as largely ceremonial.
However, the situation became clearer on September 24, 2025, when the Ogun State Government announced Oluseye’s deployment to the Ogun Tech Hub as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Information and Communication Technology.
Since his deployment, Oluseye has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at expanding digital knowledge and opportunities for young people in the state, with a particular focus on equipping youths with skills relevant to the modern technology-driven economy.
Over the past year, he has contributed to the development and visibility of the Ogun Tech Hub through the facilitation of various information technology training programmes. His activities have also helped attract organisations and technology-focused partners to the centre for collaborations and capacity-building initiatives.
Among the programmes facilitated through his office are training and capacity-building initiatives in coding, robotics and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital safety, as well as boot camps, competitions and startup incubation.
Through these initiatives, young people in Ogun State have been exposed to practical digital skills designed to improve their employability, entrepreneurship prospects and ability to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
Oluseye has also collaborated with Orange Cybersecurity Training & Services Limited to train Ogun youths in areas including graphics and brand design, website development, video editing, data science, artificial intelligence automation and quality assurance, among others.
Another initiative associated with his activities is the Edusystem: A NextGen event, which highlighted the importance of embracing digital tools, including e-libraries, to strengthen the education system across Ogun State and beyond.
The programmes have provided opportunities for hundreds of young people in the state to acquire new skills and deepen their understanding of emerging technologies.
Beyond the trainings, the initiatives have also positioned the Ogun Tech Hub as a platform where young people, technology professionals, startups and organisations can interact, collaborate and develop innovative solutions.
For a state seeking to strengthen its position as a technology and innovation hub, the emphasis on digital skills development is increasingly significant.
The growing interest in coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science and other emerging fields means that capacity-building remains crucial to preparing young people for the changing nature of work.
One year after his appointment, Oluseye’s activities have therefore provided a clearer picture of the role attached to his office, moving the appointment beyond the initial perception of a ceremonial position.
While his tenure is still unfolding, his engagement with the Ogun Tech Hub and various technology-focused programmes has continued to place youth digital empowerment at the centre of his activities as the governor’s aide on Information Technology.
