The Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu 2027 has accused the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of failing to adequately address poverty and economic hardship in the state despite the significant increase in the state’s monthly federal allocation.

The group also declared its readiness to mobilise voters across the 33 local government areas, 351 political wards and 6,390 polling units in Oyo State for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The Oyo State Coordinator of GAT, Bayo Ogundele, stated this on Saturday at the inaugural executive meeting of the organisation held in Ibadan, where the newly constituted state executive members were inaugurated.

Ogundele, while criticising the state government’s response to concerns over economic hardship, said Oyo’s monthly federal allocation had risen from about N7bn before Makinde assumed office in 2019 to as much as N24bn since Tinubu became President in May 2023.

He said, “Existing records showed that before Governor Seyi Makinde took office in May 2019, Oyo State’s monthly Federal Allocation was around N7 billion. However, since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came into office on May 29, 2023, the state allocation has moved as high as N24 billion monthly.”

According to him, the development represented a 242.86 per cent increase in the state’s monthly federal allocation, while the state also generated more than N221bn in Internally Generated Revenue between 2023 and the first quarter of 2026.

The GAT coordinator further claimed that the state government received about N1bn monthly as security vote, arguing that the combined resources should translate into improved living conditions for residents.

He questioned the rationale behind the alleged economic hardship in the state despite the increase in government revenue, saying, “Who is fooling who?”

Ogundele was reacting to recent comments credited to the Special Adviser on Media to the Oyo State Government, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, who, according to him, blamed some of the economic challenges confronting residents on the policies of the Federal Government.

He said GAT was dissatisfied with what he described as an attempt by the state government to shift responsibility for the economic situation to the Tinubu administration.

Earlier, Ogundele said the organisation was established to mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, adding that its activities would cover every part of the state.

He charged the newly inaugurated executives to establish a strong grassroots structure capable of reaching residents in remote communities, while also embarking on an aggressive membership drive.

The coordinator said the organisation would also seek to mobilise support for APC candidates at both federal and state levels in the forthcoming elections.

He said the inauguration marked the beginning of a statewide sensitisation and mobilisation campaign, assuring that members of the organisation would work towards achieving its political objectives ahead of the 2027 elections.
