Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
Obasa confirmed the meeting in a post on his official social media page, describing it as productive.
“It was a productive meeting focused on strengthening governance, delivering better outcomes for our people, and sustaining the progress Lagos is known for,” he wrote.
The Speaker also assured the public of the Assembly’s continued collaboration with the Presidency. “As Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I want to assure you that we remain fully committed to working closely with the Presidency to drive policies that directly impact lives and move our state and nation forward. Together, we will keep building a Lagos and a Nigeria we can all be proud of,” Obasa said.
However, multiple sources close to the presidency revealed that Obasa is using the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a channel to lobby President Tinubu for the APC’s Lagos West Senatorial ticket. The seat is currently occupied by former Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Oluranti-Adebule.
It was also gathered that the Chief of Staff to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Tayo Akinmade Ayinde (popularly known as Buffalo), remains in contention for the same ticket.
A political source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The truth is that the 2027 race has begun in earnest. Our leader and father, President Tinubu, is being lobbied by politicians regarding the 2027 elections. Asiwaju has Nigeria to think about, but politicians are mounting pressures on the President through various channels.”
Obasa, who represents Agege State Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, is a sixth-term lawmaker and is serving his third term as Speaker. He is widely regarded as a formidable figure in Lagos politics. His son currently serves as the Chairman of Agege Local Government.
