Osun Central Senator, Francis Adenigba Fadeyi Ajagunla, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), barely a year after defecting to the ruling party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ajagunla’s latest political move comes after he lost the APC senatorial ticket for Osun Central to legal practitioner Kunle Adegoke (SAN), popularly known as K-RAD, during the party’s primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his exit from the APC, the senator returned to a faction of the PDP aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, where he emerged as the faction’s senatorial candidate for the Osun Wike Senatorial District.

Explaining his decision to leave the APC, Ajagunla alleged that the party’s senatorial primary lacked transparency and fairness. He accused the APC leadership of abandoning internal democracy, claiming the process was manipulated in favour of preferred interests.

The senator maintained that the outcome of the primary left him with no option but to quit the party, insisting that his political ambition was driven by a desire to continue representing the people of Osun Central rather than personal political interests.

Ajagunla’s return to the Wike-backed PDP faction marks another twist in Osun’s evolving political landscape, where defections and internal party crises have continued to reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His latest defection is expected to heighten the contest for the Osun Central Senatorial seat, while also exposing the deepening divisions within both the APC and the rival factions of the PDP in the state.

The APC has yet to publicly respond to Ajagunla’s allegations regarding the conduct of its primary election. Likewise, the claims of manipulation have not been independently verified.
