Former President Goodluck Jonathan has strongly hinted at joining the 2027 presidential race amid mounting pressure from supporters and political stakeholders across the country urging him to contest.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the former Nigerian leader said he would contest “when the need arises” after wide consultations, adding that he would engage well-meaning Nigerians before taking a final decision on the presidency.

According to him, consultations remain ongoing as calls for him to return to power continue to gather momentum across different parts of the country.

In recent months, several groups and political associates have intensified appeals for Jonathan to enter the 2027 race, citing his experience, calm disposition and perceived peaceful leadership style.

The renewed calls have reportedly come from youth groups, political allies and some northern stakeholders who believe the country requires experienced leadership to tackle rising economic and security challenges.

Although the former president stopped short of making a formal declaration, his latest comments have further strengthened speculations that he may soon formally declare for the presidency.
