The Labour Party, on Thursday, kicked off its campaign for the Ogun State local government elections slated for November 16 with a call on the State Independent Electoral Commission to ensure that the votes of the people count.

This is just as the party also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of plans to rig the election and subvert the will of the people.

The state party chairman, Lookman Jagun, disclosed this at a press briefing held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta on Thursday.

Jagun said that if not that the party has perfected its rigging strategy, Governor Dapo Abiodun wouldn’t be boasting that the party would record 100 per cent victory in the local government elections.

Jagun said, “If I may ask, what is the scorecard of the APC? APC has brought nothing but hunger, misery, poverty, suffering, and tears to the people.

“With all the arable land in Ogun State, prices of basic food items have hit the roof. Garri which used to be the common man’s food, is no longer affordable. Some families can not afford to eat twice a day.

“Parents now go a whole day without eating, so that their children will be able to eat at least once a day.

“The scorecard is F9! At best, it’s P8. They plan to rig the election, but we are going to resist it with the help of the impoverished and pauperized people of Ogun state”

Jagun urged Abiodun and the OGSIEC Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu to write their names in gold by ensuring that the will of the people prevails in the forthcoming local government elections.

He said that though, out of the party’s 20 chairmanship candidates, six had withdrawn from the race due to their concerns that the ruling government won’t allow for a level playing ground.

Jagun said that 14 chairmanship candidates and 106 ocuncillorship candidates from the party will be participating in the local government elections.

He urged the people of the state to bid farewell to poverty, hunger, and all the effects of the maladministration of the ruling party by voting for the Labour Party in the local government elections.

Jagun said that the party is ready to bring about a breath of fresh air to the administration of governance at the grassroots.

He said the campaign of the party is anchored on pursuing infrastructural development, agricultural revolution, provision of primary healthcare, transparency, and accountability at the grassroots.

Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Tunde Oladunjoye,  has however declared the allegations of the opposition party as very laughable and baseless.

Oladunjoye said, “Laughable comment. Cowards die many times before their deaths. Let the pretenders in the Labour Party mention their scorecard, if any, that can go to test with APC’s”.
