*PETITION ON THE CONTINUED STAY IN OFFICE OF A GRADUATED STUDENT AS STUDENTS’ UNION PRESIDENT*
Madam Provost,
We, the concerned students of the Federal College of Education, Iwo, Osun State, write with deep concern and a strong sense of responsibility to bring to your attention an issue that threatens the integrity, democratic structure, and reputation of our institution.
It is on record that Comrade Yekeen Roqeeb Oyewole (Miokere) was duly elected as the Students’ Union President on 12th July, 2024. However, it is equally established that the tenure of a Students’ Union President is not expected to exceed one academic session, within which a new leadership should have been put in place.
More importantly, we note that the said individual officially signed out of the institution on 4th September, 2025, and took part in the Convocation Ceremony of the school held in February, 2026. By all known norm, he has effectively graduated and ceased to be an active student of the College.
It is therefore disturbing and unacceptable that a non-active student, with an expired matriculation status, continues to parade himself as the Students’ Union President of a reputable institution like the Federal College of Education Iwo. This development not only undermines the essence of students unionism but also casts a negative image on the College and its management.
Furthermore, it has come to our attention that the same individual is currently occupying the position of Vice President at National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) Headquarters, while still holding on to the office of Students’ Union President of the College. This situation is an aberration, undemocratic, and deprives the current and active students of their rightful opportunity to elect and be represented by one of their own.
In light of the above, we respectfully demand the following:
1. That the Dean of Students’ Affairs (DSA) immediately issues a release to clarify the stance of the management of the school on the matter.
2. The Directorate of Students should urgently initiate the process for a Students’ Union election to usher in a new, legitimate, and active student leadership.
3. That necessary steps be taken to ensure that only bona fide and currently registered students occupy positions within the Students’ Union structure and represent the institution in external activities.
4. That the College Management under the leadership of Dr. Suliyat Ajoke Ogungboyega, The Provost, acts swiftly to protect the integrity and reputation of the institution, by addressing this anomaly and preventing further embarrassment.
Madam Provost, this issue requires urgent attention to uphold fairness, legality, and student representation within the institution. We trust in your leadership and commitment to justice to ensure that the right steps are taken without delay.
Kindly accept the assurances of our highest regard.
Yours faithfully,
Concerned Students
