A chieftain of the National Democratic Congress, Chief Teddy Obe, has accused the party’s Ebonyi State leadership of betraying its ideology by allegedly endorsing President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Obe, the NDC National Vice-Chairman for the South-East, described the alleged endorsement as an act of anti-party activity, insisting that it contradicted the party’s commitment to service to the people.

In a statement on Wednesday, titled “Total Confusion and Betrayal in NDC Ebonyi State Chapter,” Obe expressed concern over what he described as persistent leadership failures and internal confusion within the party’s Ebonyi chapter.

He lamented that the party had yet to establish a functional secretariat in the state, leaving members without a physical meeting place or an effective grassroots mobilisation structure.

“Till today, there is no functional NDC party office in Ebonyi State. Our members have nowhere to meet, no secretariat, no structure on ground. The party exists only on Facebook while other parties are mobilising at the grassroots,” he said.

Obe also faulted the state party leadership over conflicting claims concerning the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Igwe Nwagu Paulinus, alleging that the state chairman had publicly denied his candidacy despite his name reportedly appearing on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s list.

He questioned the basis for the conflicting positions, demanding clarification on the identity of the party’s authentic governorship candidate in the state.

The NDC chieftain accused the party’s state leadership of taking a direction inconsistent with its political identity, arguing that members could not legitimately support the All Progressives Congress while remaining in the NDC.

He called on the NDC National Working Committee to intervene urgently to resolve the crisis, clarify the party’s governorship candidacy in Ebonyi and establish a functional state secretariat in Abakaliki.

Obe further urged the national leadership to investigate the alleged endorsement of Tinubu and Nwifuru and sanction any party member found culpable.

He said the Ebonyi chapter needed effective leadership, organisational discipline and grassroots mobilisation rather than what he described as persistent confusion and endorsement politics.

He warned that anti-party activities could undermine the NDC’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
