High Chief Kayode Odunaro, the Chief of Staff and Media Adviser to Senator Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi), has debunked rumors suggesting the Senator has withdrawn from the 2027 Ogun State governorship race.

The clarification follows a recent appeal by the Senator who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly urging his supporters to exercise caution regarding the premature erection of billboards and posters.

While some political observers interpreted this as a sign of waning interest, Odunaro described such interpretations as self-serving misrepresentations by those intimidated by the Senator’s rising popularity.

Speaking during a radio interview on Splash 106.7 FM in Abeokuta, Odunaro explained that the Senator’s directive was rooted in a respect for due process and the rule of law.

He noted that the 2027 electoral cycle has not yet reached the phase for full-blown campaigning according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines and party timetables.

“The Senator’s intention was first of all to appreciate the love and massive support expressed by his followers using their own resources. There was nowhere the Senator stated he was no longer interested in the race for 2027. He simply urged supporters to be guided by the traditions and rules of the game,” Odunaro stated.

Addressing the Senator’s relationship with Governor Dapo Abiodun, Odunaro emphasized a cordial and collaborative dynamic.

He highlighted that as true progressives within the All Progressives Congress (APC), both leaders are working toward the same goal of party success in Ogun State.

“He is always doing things to complement the achievements of the governor,” Odunaro remarked, adding that Senator Adeola has a long history of supporting progressive causes in the state dating back to previous administrations.

While full-scale campaigning is on hold to remain in consonance with electoral laws, Odunaro confirmed that Senator Adeola is consulting widely across the state.

He assured supporters that at the appropriate time dictated by the party’s guidelines, the Senator will launch a full blast campaign, similar to the strategy that secured his Ogun West senatorial seat by a wide margin.

The aide concluded that the Senator remains committed to the progressive tradition and will continue to serve the people of Ogun West while preparing for the formal commencement of the gubernatorial race.
