The public hearing on the Constitutional amendment in Lagos serves as a vital platform for various communities and interest groups to voice their perspectives and propose alterations to the nation’s foundational legal document.

The primary objective of the monarch and his Chiefs appearance at the public hearing was to support and push for a separate House of Assembly constituency for each of the local government areas in osun state , a Bill sponsored by Senator Oyewumi. Currently, eight local government areas in Osun state shares House of Assembly members, including Ikire which shares state assembly with Isokan local government, and this request signifies a desire for direct and dedicated representation at the state legislative level, allowing the specific needs and concerns of each local government to be more effectively addressed by a representative solely focused on the community needs and developments. The position of Osun State House of Assembly supporting this bill was presented by Rt. Hon. Egbedun, the Hon Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly and 6 other Honourable members from osun state.

Also, the delegation advocated for the naming of Ikire Local Government replacing Irewole local government. The Bill suggests a formalization or renaming that explicitly incorporates “Ikire” into the official designation. This is a move to solidify the identity and prominence of Ikire within the administrative structure, ensuring its recognition and potentially reflecting its historical and cultural significance in the local government area.

His presence alongside the Ikire delegation at the public hearing underscores the coordinated effort to translate these community aspirations into legal and constitutional changes. The position of Ikire was presented by Prince Barr. Oyesomi Alani (Courage) on behalf of Akire of Ikireland. The hearing serves as an opportunity to formally support the Bill to enhance political representation and administrative recognition, with the full backing of the traditional leadership. The comprehensive nature of the advocacy highlights a clear vision for the future political and administrative landscape of Ikire.
