The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, announced the development during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
According to the police commissioner, the arrests followed extensive intelligence gathering, technical tracking, and forensic investigations carried out after the tragic incident.
It was earlier reported that the victims were discovered dead at Oyesiku’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State on June 21, while her Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing from the compound.
Ojajuni explained that police received a report around 4:00 pm on June 21 concerning unusual activity at the residence. Upon arrival, officers observed signs of forced entry and found the security house locked.
Further examination revealed the body of Pelumi Adetayo inside the security house, while Olakitan Oyesiku was found in the main building.
Police investigators processed the crime scene and discovered that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 had been taken, raising suspicion of robbery and homicide.
The commissioner disclosed that the vehicle was recovered on June 22 through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking.
A major breakthrough came after investigators recovered a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the scene. According to police, forensic analysis of the note provided critical leads that helped identify and trace the suspects.
Police later arrested the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip (22), at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was reportedly working as a labourer.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola (27) and Sobu Obafunsho (36).
During interrogation, Philip reportedly confessed to involvement in the killings and admitted recruiting the other suspects.
According to the police, Philip stated that he planned the attack due to unresolved grievances from the period he worked as a security guard for the deceased and intended to “teach her a lesson.”
Investigators said the suspects allegedly overpowered Pelumi Adetayo to gain access into the residence before carrying out the attack. They later fled with the deceased’s vehicle, which was eventually recovered at Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
Police also recovered several items linked to the case, including a broken hammer, cutlass, plank, black pen, and other materials considered relevant to the investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command stressed that although confessional statements and evidence had been obtained, investigations remain ongoing and all suspects are entitled to due process under the law.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and prosecuting everyone connected to the crime.
