The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ogun State on Information Technology, Hon. Akeem Oluseye has charged Nigerian youths to get more involved in politics.
According to him, the youths cannot afford to stay aloof and blame continue to complain about bad governance.
He made the call while addressing Political Science students of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
He said: “A Brief Admonition to Political Science Students
“My fellow political science students, your journey as political scientists does not begin after graduation—it begins now.
“The best way to practice this noble profession is not just in the classroom but by being present and active in the political terrain.
“As youths, we cannot afford to sit idle, waiting to be called; no one will hand us the mantle of leadership—we must step forward and claim it.
“Complaining about bad governance while remaining passive only makes us part of the problem. A scholar once said that the greatest punishment of the educated but parochial citizen is that he shall be ruled over by fools.
“It is our responsibility, as educated young minds, to take the bull by its horns and drive the change we want to see.
“Let us begin at the grassroots—get involved in your political ward because true governance starts from there.
“Join a political party (I will recommend the All Progressives Congress, my party to you) and ensure you are well known through your contributions.”
The SSA also called on the youths to mobilise their immediate neighbors to register for the ongoing Permanent Voter’s Card.
“Mobilise your immediate neighbours to get involved in politics by at least register to vote during the forthcoming election. Our people at the grassroot need you; our state needs you; the country needs you; Africa needs you; and, ultimately, the world wants to see you lead.
“Together, let us rise, participate, and shape the future of our nation,” He further posited.
